Welcome to week 1 of the One Room Challenge!
We are feeling a little behind already as we decided just this week to join the amazing featured designers and guest participants of the Spring 2019 One Room Challenge. However, are so excited to see the other projects come along and know we’ll need the support to get ours finished in 6 weeks with everything else on our plates.
Let’s back up – what is the One Room Challenge? It’s a biannual event that challenges the 20 talented feature designers and many inspiring guest bloggers to transform a room in 6 weeks.
Well, challenge accepted!
We have decided to focus on our outdoor fire pit patio area- what better way to get ready for summer?! Fortunately, we had some beautiful weather last weekend so briefly started clearing the spot. We sort of started this last year by removing some weeds but then focused on our raised beds and other areas of the backyard instead. One thing you can count on in our yard is weeds so good thing we accomplished what we did last year or we would still be pulling weeds today.
Here’s what the area looked like when we bought the house 3 years ago

Here’s where we got to last summer
Here’s where we’re at after the weekend
Needless to say, we have our work cut out for us. We’ve already gone back and forth on what to cover the ground with: 2×2 pavers or a mix of rock and pavers or slate. We better decide fast because they need to be ordered! No worries, we’ll need some time to get the stump and re-bar out. Why all the re-bar, you ask? Because this area used to have plants that the re-bar kept the hose from taking out the plants as it was dragged around for watering.
Sean was out there tonight working on digging out some re-bar and started tackling the stump. Other than that, I did some shopping tonight and have hunted and gathered some beautiful decor and accents (on sale woot-woot). We measured for the lights and we need another set. Oh darn, I guess I have to go back to the store and do some more shopping.
Cheers,
Denise and Sean
